Backup and recovery of Oracle Exadata platform

    Hello Community
I have a request from a customer looking for a solution to backup with Storage Protect an Oracle database platform running on an Exadata solution.

I would like to know the Community's experience with solutions of this type and the considerations to keep in mind in its implementation. I reviewed the Blueprint document for Spectrum Protect and it does not reference the scenario I am looking for.

I appreciate your help with this request.

    Regards.

    Hello Diego,

Check this link to select the appropriate version of Spectrum Protect for Databases for Oracle that suits your environment

    https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/343263

Install and configure that specific version (and previously its pre-requisites).

Configure a profile and ask RMAN to open it as a channel. RMAN will backup on Spectrum Protect directly.

Only problem I've found backing up Oracle DB running on the Exadata platform I've been working on, is that it had only 1 Gbps interfaces as the only channel to transfer the backup to Spectrum Protect Server. If this is your case too, my recommendation is to use as much compression as you can use from the RMAN script (RMAN compression is great, but bottleneck will go to high CPU utilization).

    My 25 cents.

    Regards

    Nicolás
