RACF VSAM dynamic migration with name change

    Hello All,

I am trying to convert our RACF database to VSAM without an IPL, but would also like to change the names.

The documentation I've found is not totally clear, but seems to suggest this might not be possible?
    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/zos/2.5.0?topic=database-migrating-racf-vsam-data-set

    From the above:
RENAMEACTIVATE renames the current backup RACF data set name to dsn and renames the RACF VSAM data set to the backup RACF data set name.

Is there a feasible way for me to convert the database to VSAM and also rename the primary/backup without an IPL?

    Thanks in advance,
    Matt

I'll answer the question here since RACF support replied to me.

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to dynamically change the names of the RACF databases; these names are used for the duration of the last IPL as specified in the relevant IRRPRMxx member. To change the name, an IPL is required or a sysplex-wide IPL when in sysplex communication mode.

I see that it's possible to migrate to a RACF VSAM dataset without an IPL based on the Migrating to a RACF VSAM Data Set doc, but that expects the names to be the same. You could migrate to the VSM dataset for now without an IPL and schedule an IPL to change the database names at a later date?
