  • 1.  Kiosk mode with single locked web page

    Posted Wed January 17, 2024 12:28 PM

Hello, I'm hoping someone can help me.

I need to present a Samsung tablet in a kiosk mode with a single, locked web page which is an application form.

My customer does not want the end user to be able to navigate away from this page at all and browse the web.

I can lock the browser to the web application page, but how could I get rid of the navigation icons?

I'm trying both Samsung and Chrome browsers.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Bryn

    Good question.

There is configuration in the Android Enterprise section of the Android policy (Security/Policies) that may help.

For Chrome: Android Enterprise Settings > Browser > Allow Browser (Chrome) > Generic Chrome settings (click on the link for the full list of settings)

For Samsung browser: on same page, Configure Samsung Browser > some settings but none that seem to be relevant to what you are seeking.

In addition to these settings you can also use AppConfig which is a way of configuring additional settings for a given app, which you configure in MaaS360, and when you push out the managed app it carries the settings with it.

Here is some relevant documentation for how to configure the settings: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/maas360?topic=configurations-creating-app-configuration

Now you need to note that the AppConfig comes down to each app provider meaning they may or may not have provided such configuration.

Samsung has the following indication on their website relevant to MaaS360 AppConfig:

    https://docs.samsungknox.com/admin/knox-platform-for-enterprise/assets/kpe-maas360-uem-user-guide-v3.0.pdf

Please add AppConfig for each app and see which settings are possible.

    Best

    Bryn:
if you do the following in the security policy you are using in MaaS for these devices, users will not be able to surf anywhere but where the company wants them to:
    1. Go to Security policy

    2. Click "Browser"
    3. Check "allow Browser (Chrome)"

    4. enter "*" in the Blocked URL's field

    5. Add allowed URL's in the Exception fields

    6. On the device during the enrollment, set the homepage in chrome to the page you want the device to open to.

Also it is critical you are conducting Device Owner enrollments for these devices, for all of this to work.

    Thanks,
