  • 1.  How to enable managed appleid iCloud Backup on a managed iPad?

    Posted Thu July 27, 2023 03:18 PM

I am trying to use the iCloud backup on an iPad, but the only option in the iCloud settings within the iPad is to backup Siri. I would like to be able to backup everything.

In our mdm security policy settings, we have iCloud enabled in the supervised settings and the device settings. It is also a shared/multi user iPad, could this be restricting the options?

    Thanks

    Hi Daniel

What's the use case, which app data do you actually need?

    This will help with response.

We have had a few instances of contacts/communications being lost when a phone breaks. I would like to be able to enforce icloud backup of  contacts, messages, photos, and the Microsoft account information (for outlook, teams, office apps). I suppose we do not need to back up the contents of the office apps, just the account info if possible.

Also, If we could backup the Microsoft authenticator app, including the login data, that would be great as well. But from what I understand, you can not do this when business Microsoft accounts are involved (only personal microsoft accounts can make backups). We use business Microsoft accounts for everything Microsoft related.

    Hi Daniel

    Concerning Microsoft data:

    • Mail should be on the mail platform (Outlook.com/Exchange/Office365) so shouldn't need backups unless the users are archiving older mails, in which case the .PST files will need backup
    • Microsoft Office data should be saved on OneDrive, or whatever corporate storage facility you are using - if not using this I highly recommend it or your users will incur data loss
    • For iOS data including Contacts I have checked on Apple.com and found instructions for this. If not working you should contact Apple Support following the link at the bottom of the page.

    Hope this helps!
