  • 1.  Cloud Extender Server

    Greetings,

    I am currently experiencing some issues with the Cloud Extender server. It intermittently displays a warning message stating that the tool has ceased functioning and then proceeds to restart.

    Upon reviewing the logs, I have identified the following messages:

    ERROR System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800706BA): The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)
    FATAL ConfigTool.Infrastructures.Exceptions.ComServiceException: GetModuleCollection ---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)

    I have already verified both the server and Cloud Extender settings, and initially, everything appears to be in order without any issues.

    Both the server and Cloud Extender are fully up-to-date. Would someone kindly be able to assist me with this matter?

    Cloud Extender Version: 3.0.250.24
    Operating System Version: Windows Server 2019

    Hi Eric

    RPC being Remote Procedure Call, it may be that there has been a lag or drop in network connectivity. 

    If you want to get this followed up the ideal would be to get Cloud Extender logs and create a Support ticket so that they can investigate. 

    Attached instructions on retrieving logs for Cloud Extender.

    Have you addressed Microsoft's deprecation of RPS?

    Open the Services application (services.msc) and verify that the "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)" service is set to Automatic and is running. The default port for RPC is TCP port 135. Additionally, RPC dynamically selects a port for communication, so make sure your firewall allows dynamic RPC ports. Ensure that the server can resolve the DNS names of the machines it is trying to communicate with. Incorrect DNS resolution can lead to RPC issues.Make sure that you have the latest updates for the Cloud Extender software. Sometimes, a bug fix or patch may address such issues. Check if any antivirus or security software running on the server might be blocking RPC communication. Temporarily disabling such software for testing purposes can help identify if it's causing the issue.
