  • 1.  C2RWTO - only 72 length ?

    Posted Wed April 13, 2022 09:23 AM
    Hello,

Is it possible to have the replace the default value of 72 length for the C2RWTO with the longer one ?
I did put the new values:

    XXC2RWTO DD SYSOUT=&PRTOUT,HOLD=YES,LRECL=1000,RECFM=VB
    IEFC653I SUBSTITUTION JCL - SYSOUT=A,HOLD=YES,LRECL=1000,RECFM=VB

the spool file seems to be longer but the zAlert output has been cut off to 72 (?) - is it normal ?
What I should do to have longer line than 72 ?

    thank you

    Hi Slawomir,
The CARLa Command Reference states in relation to WTO:

"it issues a multi-line write-to-operator (WTO) message for each record in the NEWLIST. The WTO messages are issued with routing code 9 (security)
descriptor code 12 (informational). The number of lines is limited to 10 and the maximum line length is 70."

The C2RWTO DD is for testing purposes, and when selected as a destination it redirects the generated WTO to that output DD, so the line length limit is the same as for standard WTOs.

As Mike pointed out, the NEWLIST WTO option generates a multi-line WTO, even when only a single (sortlist/summary) output line is issued.  You could suggest (with an RFE) that zSecure allow up to 126 characters of single line WTO, if there is only 1 output line in the sortlist, though I am not sure of the (development) cost vs. real benefit.  See WTO macro syntax.

You can also generate (up to) 10 lines of WTO by adding / (newline) operators in your sortlist command.  These end up in the same message buffer that you can subsequently parse in Netview Rexx programs.  I've seen customers write their own alerts with masses of information, only to be processed with WTO capturing tools.

Finally, if you really want to send many output fields from zSecure Alert, use the Unix Syslog protocol, or if you must, write to C2PSYSLG using the NEWLIST SYSLOG SYSLOGTOFILE keywords.
