  • 1.  VIOS NVME torage backplane redundancy

    Posted Mon July 18, 2022 12:11 PM
    Hi,
I would like to have redundancy for the single controller in back-plane for NVMe EJ1X for a S1022 server. My customer has only A VIOS per server and he will do mirroring at the VIOS rootvg level but he would like to have also redundancy for the backplane. Is it a supported configuration to have 2 EJ1X Storage backplane with1 NVME disk EC7T in each ?
    Thanks.

    Dear Thierry

There is now a draft copy of the new Technical Overview redbook on the Scale Out Power10 servers available on IBM Redbook web site:  https://redbooks.ibm.com/redpieces/abstracts/redp5675.html.  On page 117 and 127, it appears that you can order a max of 2 units of EJ1X backplane for S1022.  On page 128, you will see the table list of available NVMe devices. EC7T is in the list and you should be able to order 2 units for what your customer wants.

    Hi Thierry,

yes it is supported, you can select 2 EJ1X, therefore you need 2 PCI slots, and only 2 EC7T NVMe Devices.

Perhaps you have to rearrange the NVMe Devices.

Thanks all for your response, so I will go for 2 EJ1X with 1 EC7T in each.
