Hi Satid. Thanks so much for your input.
Yes, we have many networked printers connected to our IBMi. It has been a fairly regular chore here to use Crtdevprt to connect a new Toshiba MFP or high capacity HP to the IBMi.
The PC-attached printer is old-school around here -- as it does require -- in some cases -- a specific PC to be on (and logged-in) and that particular *.hod to be open.

Dear Joe
Are you implying all printers used by IBM i in your organization are network printers? It can take a long time to wait as the new Navigator roadmap has no such support in it for now. And in the case of using PC-attached printers, ACS provides GUI for the creation process as the links I provided demonstrate.

Hi Satid. I actually created an IBM support case on this.
The support person believe the add printer function was removed from Navigator for I.
And told me to create an ER to request it back.
I have been putting hope in Navigator for I being a support tool that others in my IT department could use, because they loath to use " green screen".

Dear Joe
I'm pretty sure the URL you referred to is about the "heritage" Navigator GUI. I suggest you move your mouse cursor over each of the menu icons in the left panel and notice each pop-up menu to try to find function for printers. Considering the fact that the new Navigator is still a work in progress, you may or may not find what you want now.
One thing I notice from IBM Technote on the new Navigator roadmap ( https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/6485241 ) is that I do not see any mention of printer function at all. May be a bad sign for you.
What kind of printer do you want to add? Is it a PS/PCL printer connected to LAN? If so, I do not think even the heritage Navigator GUI would accommodate all steps for creating everything for a network printer. It is better that you use IBM i Technote instead by doing a Google search with "ibm i <printer brand and model>".
If you want to use a printer attached to a Windows PC through ACS 5250 printer session, you should use this IBM Technote: IBM i Access Client Solutions (ACS): Configuring a Printer Session. There is also a training video on this on Youtube: Sips & Tricks Coffee with iTech: How to Setup Your Home Printer as an IBM i Printers with ACS.

Hi. The article below talks about adding printers in an IBMi environment.
Am I correct in reading that this can be done with the web tool called "IBM Navigator for I"?
If so, I logon with Qsec but I do not see a "Basic Operations" task group.

You can use the Add Printer wizard in IBM Navigator for i to create a printer device description and its associated objects. |
