  • 1.  hmc vs power vs asmi: virtual management interface IP is not configured

    Posted Wed January 25, 2023 02:54 PM
Hi, I have an issue, I'm trying to connect a power10 with an hmc 7063-CR2 and when I connect it: It sends this message: virtual management interface IP is not configured, and the signal tells me no connection. but if I can enter the asmi to create profiles, I already changed the cable. What is going on? Am I taking a step that wasn't in other HMCs?

    Hello Rene,

basically i assume you skipped one required installation step to configure VMI to manage a Power10 eBMC type system from an HMC.
Please go ahead with this IBM support doc:

Then scroll down to the section "NeweBMC Service ProcessorInformation - Sept 2022" for eight videos from the eBMC team.

    Hi all,

I've exactly the same issue. I forgot to configure VMI before the first boot.
But now, I'm unable to configure my new POWER10.

I've stopped the POWER10, configure the VMI, remove the connection, re-add it reboot the HMC and the BMC but none of this worked.
I've also tried to fix a static IP, but it didn't work.
I've watch the "Top 3 errors issues on POWER10 eBMC". In this video, Russel Young just configured the VMI network interface from static to dhcp and it worked.

So if someone have an idea, I'm ok to try :)
