What is the latest information on IBM Db2 Web Query for i V2.4.0?

1)Is the upgrade from WebQuery 2.1 to 2.4 supported?

2)When will the release notes for WebQuery 2.4 be available?

    Best regards.

    Dear Nakata-san

I Google with "ibm i web query 2.4" and get its Sales Manual here : https://www.ibm.com/common/ssi/ShowDoc.wss?docURL=/common/ssi/rep_sm/x/649/ENUS5733-WQX/index.html&lang=en&request_locale=en    There is also its announcement letter URL but it appears to contain the same information.

The manual indicates its availability of 16 December. So, I guess you need to wait a bit more for its Release Note to be available.  As for the upgrade from 2.1, I would say it should be supported because its version is the same and also with this statement from the manual:  Current Db2 Web Query for i clients with active Software Maintenance can upgrade to version 2.4.0.

There was a webinar recently discussing the new version. If you didn't get a chance to watch it live I think you still can. Link included below.

I do remember them stating that an upgrade could be done using EZ Install, but I don't remember if they specifically mentioned 2.1. The Web Query guys have a support address that goes directly to them and they are usually pretty quick to respond if you want to ask that specific question:  QU2@us.ibm.com

    Hello Nakata-san,

We saw your email to QU2@us.ibm.com as well and will answer there too.

Q1:  Regarding licensing - if you're current on Db2 Web Query Software Maintenance you would get license keys for all Version 2 products, so you would also get license keys for 2.4.0.

As for doing the physical upgrade, there are a couple of considerations here. Version 2.4.0 will only support operating system levels 7.4 and 7.5. Version 2.1.x supports only up to 7.2, so when you are ready to put 2.4.0 on you'll need to be installing it on a system or LPAR/VM that is either 7.4 or 7.5. You will need to consider this - please refer to the pre-req and release level support document here: Web Query release levels and prerequisites_3.pdf (ibm.com).

One option, assuming you're on 7.2, is to upgrade to 2.2.1 or 2.3.0 (note that 2.2.1 goes out of support in January of 2023) on that 7.2 system, and then at some point you could upgrade your OS to 7.4 or 7.5.  And then upgrade to web query 2.4.0 at some point after the OS upgrade.

There are other scenarios as well - for instance, perhaps you have a DIFFERENT system at 7.4 or 7.5 and as part of getting that into production you also want to upgrade the web query to 2.4.0. For that, I suggest you check back with us at the end of the year when 2.4.0 becomes available to have us help with the necessary steps to migrate the 2.1.x environment to 2.4.0

No matter what you choose, just a reminder that our ez-install installation package is our recommendation for new installs and upgrades. You can request that by sending an email to Qu2@us.ibm.com and supplying your company name, s/n of system, and OS level of that same system where you plan to install.

Q2: We are working on the 2.4.0 "New Features" guide and will post it on our wiki when it is done - to get to the guide, go to http://ibm.biz/db2wqwiki and take the documentation link and look for New Features Guide. That should be happening in a couple/three weeks. If you're interested in what's in 2.4.0, you can view a recorded webinar I did a couple of weeks ago - it is still available at http://ibm.biz/Db2wq-Oct132022-Webinar  and will be available for some time yet.
