    Hi all,

I'm connecting AIX 7.2 to iSCSI VTL (QuadStor) for testing TSM backup/restore in my lab.

When I running "cfgmgr -vl iscsi0"
cfgmgr: 0514-621 WARNING: The following device packages are required for
device support but are not currently installed.
    devices.iscsi.changer

Checking the device were found. There is no media changer
    lsdev -Cc tape
rmt0 Available Other iSCSI Tape Drive
rmt1 Available Other iSCSI Tape Drive
rmt2 Available Other iSCSI Tape Drive
rmt3 Available Other iSCSI Tape Drive

Does anyone know where can I get devices.iscsi.changer device drivers?
I tried to looking in the AIX 7.2 installation media disc 1, 2 and even expansion pack, but with no luck.

    Best Regards
    Justin Cheng

    Hello Justin,

Did you find a solution.  I am facing a similar problem looking for devices.iscsi.array.

    Hi,

cfgmgr: 0514-621 WARNING: The following device packages are required for device support but are not currently installed.
    devices.xxxxxx.changer

    That means :
during the configuration method, AIX detects a device which cannot match with any "uniquetype" in the odm database.

Then, AIX provides  a generic fileset ...which doesn't exist !

In fact, AIX generates what it thinks would be a good name for a package that might support this device type.

Sorry , but you have to find the true fileset.... and I don't know wich one.

    Patrick.

    Hi Patrick,

Unless there is a device driver from QuadStor (usually it's just an ODM definition), you won't be able to use it.

As to the generic name that doesn't exist, when cfgmgr finds a device it doesn't know about, it builds a list of possible package names, from the most specific to the most generic and tries to use the first available.  Usually, the generic name doesn't really exist.

You may want to install two or three autochanger packages to see what they bring into the ODM, to see if you can figure out the ODM entries needed by the QuadStor.

Also, I've previously had a problem where the AIX iSCSI initiator would freeze, and IBM support told me that the AIX iSCSI initiator is supported only with the AIX iSCSI target (which is kind of pointless).

    Here's my guess/suggestion.

QuadStor web site indicates their VTL emulates several IBM libraries and tape drives.
If you haven't tried this yet, download the IBM tape changer and device driver files from Fix Central.
System Storage > Tape Systems > Tape drivers and software > choose/download 'Tape device drivers' and 'IBM Tape Diagnostic Tool ITDT'.

I used these for a while with a Data Domain VTL a few years ago.

    Good luck!
