  • 1.  7063-CR2 w/One Bad PS Stays Powered After Reboot

    I have a customer with a 7063-CR2 that has one bad power supply. We rebooted it and were surprised to find that it shutdown during the reboot and stayed powered off. Attempting to power on with the BMC GUI fails. I'm assuming this is not the normal/ expected behavior with redundant power supplies. 
    Has anyone else had this problem?
    A service request is in progress. 
    Levels are

    HMC:

    V10 R3 SP1050

    V10R3M1051 

    MF71553

     

    BMC is OP940 2023/11/17

    Hi,

    After when we power on the HMC from BMC GUI, can we go to Server Control --> Serial over LAN consol and check the console 

    in case if it is stuck at boot menu, we can go ahead and select the "Hardware management Console" boot menu option

    or if any error or other output can u paste it ?

    if we didnt see any update in then we can check Server Control --> KVM also

    Also can u check the Server Health --> Events log if any error during this time

    Yes, that's clearly not the expected result with redundant power supplies.

    Check the errorlog on the BMC.

    Try to swap the power supplies.

    Never had a power supply go bad on my vHMC.  :-)

    Going all the way back to serial HMCs running WebSM through today with vHMC and CR2's , I don't remember losing a power supply in an HMC.  Have lost a couple disks over the years though but nothing out of the ordinary.

    Hardware will eventually fail.
    Software will eventually work.
