    Dear Michael

I would not continue using an unsupported SW product if it has a history of functional hiccups.   But if you have used Web 5250 in XH2 for a substantial or extensive period of time and it have worked fine for you without problems that were due to product defects, you can then continue using it despite its dropped support status.

BTW, is there any reason why you would not want to switch to using IBM i ACS?

    Thank Satid,

The ACS for the Web product is not in use today, but we have many new users, and the question was asked, "Why can't we connect via a browser?".

    Hi Michael,

A good one for just 5250 (with customizations and SSO options) would be https://www.greenscreens.io/

    Give them an evaluation.

Since you need not pay for XH2, I would say you can try using it to see if it is good and secured enough for what your users want.  You can find many information on how to deploy it in the section named "IBM i Access for Web / Mobile" of this IBM Technote: IBM i Access - Resources at  https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/ibm-i-access-resources

What are they hoping to accomplish with a web 5250 solution?

Do they simply want a 5250 green screen on a web browser?  Why?  To avoid having to load iACS (or any other emulator) on the machines?

Or, are they looking for more features in a web based client?  Such as looking at your spool files, IFS, etc?  If so, then I would suggest the native IBM Navigator for i which comes with the system.  On my system I can access it with https://myibmi.mydomain.com:2003/Navigator/login  This URL has changed over the years.  You can read more at:  https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/ibm-navigator-i

I think there was a 5250 emulator in the old Heritage version of Navigator for i.  But I may be mistaken if that was where it was.  I've disabled the Heritage version due to it's security concerns.

A couple of customers asked me something similar.

We have built for them an easy to use solution, combining Proxmox, LXC containers and iACS.

I would take a look at Fresche Solutions, Presto   We use it and supporting  500+ users.  It also includes a SSO option.

    Thanks Robert,

    Just 5250 without ACS
