QLWISVR authority to ENDTRC/DLTTRC

  • 1.  QLWISVR authority to ENDTRC/DLTTRC

    Posted Mon March 21, 2022 04:20 PM
we recently(last 2 months) started noticing Authority Failures to the ENDTRC and DLTTRC commands under profile QLWISVR.
We have not intentionally changed anything to cause this and are not sure why this has occurred.   We are not sure why these are even being attempted to be used.   They are attached to job QSQSRVR.

We have put on CUMES and Groups as well as installed 'New Navigator', however i can't find any documentation to indicate a change in authority on these objects.
Any thoughts on what might have caused a change for this to start happening?

    thanks
    MIke

QSQSRVR system job is a downstream job that responds to a request from an upstream job. If you can identify the upstream job name and look into its job log, you may find an answer or a clue in there.  Does the authority failure log contain the full job name of QSQSRVR?  If so, you should use that full job name to find its job log with WRKSPLF command and look at the beginning part of QSQSRVR's job log to find CPF9898 message which indicates its upstream job name ( SERVER MODE CONNECTING JOB IS NNNNNN/JOBNAME/JOBUSER). Then you run WRKSPLF again to find the upstream job's log.

after more investigation, this starting happening the same day  after i applied PTFs and TR11.
So did authority for the user profile QLWISVR change for these objects, or did the authority for the objects change and why?
i guess the simple solution is to grant authority to QLWISVR, but i don't want to just arbitrarily do that

If you Google with "ibm i apar qlwisvr", you will see some resulting entries about authority failure of QLWISVR. Please have a look to see if any of these match your case or not.  If not, you need to find the job log starting with WRKSPLF for this user profile.

    Satid,

I'm experiencing the same issue. I've looked into the (spool file) job log for the QSQSRVR job. There is no CPF9898 message there. See uploaded file: JobLog.txt

Am I missing something in you explanation?

    Rick
I  ultimately reached out to IBM.
    I was told to apply
    either 7.3 SI77425 or 7.4 SI77426

unfortunately this did not work for me.

However i did discover that my test system is not experiencing this and i'm slightly ahead on PTF's on my test system, so i'm going to get both production and test synced on PTF's and see if that solves the problem.

    Mr. Rick

When browsing the job log of QSQSRVR job you provided, I saw that this job started in the first minute of April 6 and it was idle all along until it was ended (by subsystem monitor function) at 10:30 AM the same day.  So, this job never ran any workload at all. You did not see CPF9898 message because this job never served any SQL request from any user job at all.  Is there only one job log for QSQSRVR?

When you said you had the same issue, how did you know this?  From some system message in QSYSOPR?  If so, you should see the job name in the message and you should use that job name in WRKSPLF to find the correct job log file.

See the attached spreadsheet for the AF Journal entries in questions. Sample from the last 10 days.

This is occurring on a single system, but I have 19 systems all at the same PTF levels.

Job logs for all the jobs listed appear basically the same as the one I updated previously.

I take back my comment. Come to find out this particular server IS NOT up to the same PTF level as my other systems. PTFs being applied this weekend, Will check next week to see if the issue resolves itself.

    Mr. Rick

When an QSQSRVR job is serving a user job, it switches to and adopts authority assignment of the user profile of the user job.  Based on your additional audit journal information, it appears that idling QSQSRVR jobs cause repeating authority failures to ENDTRC and DLTRC commands which can be considered a strange behaviour. Therefore it can be reasonable to conclude that there is a bug in IBM i.
