    Hi,

Could someone brief me in quickly how does the Active Memory expansion feature activation/enablement  pricing/cost go on Power9 /10 ?

Is it free of charge feature nowdays?
Or Some one-off fee (per frame or per core) ?
Or some continuous maintenance fee on yearly basis?

    Br,
    tommi

    Hi,

AME activation is based on the whole system not by LPAR core or something like that. It is a hardware feature.

    Sales Manual:

Active Memory Expansion is enabled by chargeable hardware feature EM89, which can be ordered with the initial order of the system or as an MES order. A

software key is provided when the enablement feature is ordered, which is applied to the system node. An IPL is not required to enable the system node. The key

is specific to an individual system and is permanent. It cannot be moved to a different server.

    Regards, Harald

    Hello Tommi,
AME is/was part of PowerVM Enterprise license. For Power7, Power8 (for Scale-out machines) you had to order such license. If you can still add it for these machines? I doubt because these are out for marketing already (but you can talk to your sales representative).
For Power9 PowerVM Enterprise was delivered by default to all type of servers.
For Power10 and onward AME is no longer available. IBM will not deliver this technology anymore. (It was very sporadic used)

    Totally agree.
    I mixed AME and AMS.
The story I wrote is realted to AMS. AME - Active Memory Expansion is an AIX feature, and it is independent from PowerVM edition. This you should be able to order, and yes it will be supported on POWER10.

It may depend on the region, but it looks like prices are more less:
3k $ for scale out servers
    9,6-10k $ for enterprise Power9/10
