This is just my view based on what I've heard at different times as the answer has changed over time.
I think the simple answer is no, MQ itself is not different in the standalone vs CP4I versions.
I believe in some cases, CP4I is just a licensing option. You can still download and use the same copy of MQ with either license.
However the strategy is that its part of a package that runs on Red Hat OpenShift. That's where the big difference lies. OpenShift makes it easier to deploy and update MQ (once you've set up the deployment packages etc). It makes it slightly harder to see/connect to MQ within the container.
