MQ Client library licensing question

  • 1.  MQ Client library licensing question

    Posted Fri April 28, 2023 11:02 AM

I have downloaded the IBM MQ Client Redistributable package 9.3.2.0-IBM-MQC-Redist-LinuxX64. The license files included in the package, English.txt and non_ibm_license.txt, indicate that some code in some products is licensed under GPL. Is any of the code in the client library licensed under GPL? The concern is that this would make any code using these libraries also subject to the GPL.

    Hi @Terry Griffin

Apologies for the delayed response, but I have a message from our MQ team that should help with your question!

"The MQ 'Replicated Data Queue Manager' RDQM uses GPL-licensed libraries to deliver the capability. There isn't much GPL used in MQ, and anything that is GPL is kept at arms length (interaction between MQ and these libraries is usually via the command line) so that MQ does not itself become contaminated and subject to the GPL. The MQ client libraries don't contain any GPL-licensed material, so won't contaminate applications linking to those libraries."

Please let me know if you have any more questions regarding this issue and we can get in touch!
