  • 1.  Aspera Hot Folder unable to connect to AWS S3 Bucket

    Posted Mon November 07, 2022 01:17 PM
We are connecting to an Aspera Server hosted by our partner to download files from them.

We have mounted our AWS S3 Bucket to the server that has the Aspera Client installed. It works well when we do manual transfer.

However, when we setup Hot Folder and set the destination as the mounted S3 Bucket destination, it does not work.

Here is the error logs from aspera.

[AWT-EventQueue-0] ERROR xfer.HotFolderManager - Sending command: LOAD_CONFIGURATION, got error: Connection refused: connect

May I know how can I setup Hot Folder to automatically transfer the files to our AWS S3 Bucket?

The Aspera Sync Server -ie Hot Folder runs as a service.

If you are mounting an S3 bucket onto the desktop, then you must make sure that the mount is available to the user running the IBM Aspera Sync service.

In general, when running against S3 storage, you'll want to install an IBM Aspera HSTS on a server in the same AWS region as the S3 storage, this will enable you to have faster access to the files.

The best configuration would be to run the Aspera Watchfolder Service on a Linux EC-2 machine to automate sending files that land in your bucket to a destination HSTS.
