Data Security matters!

With the amount of data being created and stored daily, data security is becoming more and more imperative. If properly implemented, in fact, solid data security strategies are essential to protect an organization's information assets against cyber-attacks and to guarantee the confidentiality and authenticity of data.

At the core of that security lies encryption, a method of protecting information and communications through the use of codes, so that only those for whom the information is intended can read and process it.

Spazio Data Secure FILESEC, our cryptographic solution

On this basis and because of the reliability and security of z/OS environment, our product Spazio Data Secure FILESEC is fully integrated on z/OS.

FILESEC is the complete, multiplatform, and easy-to-use cryptographic solution to make file transfers more secure. It enables secure management of application files using cryptographic techniques based on the most widely used algorithms and the most up-to-date standards.

The solution fully meets the requirements of Authentication, Integrity and Data Confidentiality. FILESEC uses data encryption to keep information private and digital signatures to give a recipient very strong reason to believe that the message was created by a known sender (non repudiation), and that the message was not altered in transit (Integrity).

z/OS Facilities used by FILESEC

To perform cryptographic operations FILESEC uses the full secure infrastructure supplied by zOS environment.

• IBM DB2 - The database is used to store public Certificates and Certificate Revocation List

• ICSF Hardware, an element of z/OS used to provide secure, high-speed cryptographic services such as encryption and digital signature

• CICS Environment for using APIs and customizing FILESEC for customer needs

• RACF, Resource Access Control Facility, an add-on software product that provides basic security for a Z system. File access control based on the DSName is carried out using the DATASET security given by RACF which protects resources by granting access only to authorized users of the protected resources, providing protection of private keys

• Monitoring of FILESEC jobs fully integrated in z/OS environment.
