    Dear SA z/OS users,

with Service Management Unite V1.1.4, available since June 2018, Docker technology is introduced to reduce the time and effort in installing Service Management Unite (SMU).

Docker is an open platform for developing, shipping, and running applications. To simplify the installation, an SMU Docker image is provided as an alternative to the classic installation package. With the Docker image, you can create a Docker container that includes everything that is needed for Service Management Unite to run, including an operating system, user-added files, metadata, and the related dependencies.

With the new installation using the prebuilt Docker image, you only need three steps to set up the environment:

    1. Install Docker.
    2. Load the prebuilt SMU Docker image.
    3. Run SMU Docker container.

It's a faster, easier, and smoother process that can greatly reduce your time and effort. You don't need to spend a lot of time in preparing for the runtime environment because everything is included in the Docker image. You also don't need to download several packages and use different installers to install each software manually and separately.
