  • 1.  Question About IPL after applying PTF UI65806

    Posted Thu March 12, 2020 09:27 AM
    Hello,

We're working on our RSU maintenance for DB2 v12 for z/OS and one of the PTFs has an action of:

(PTF UI65806) This PTF requires a re-IPL of zOS to fully implement the fix.

New Db2 development support for APAR PH13240

    APAR Identifier ...... PH14303     Last Changed ........ 19/11/01

NEW DB2 DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT FOR APAR PH13240

    MODULES/MACROS:   DSN3UR00

Does it matter if we apply the PTF and wait several weeks to perform the IPL?  Or is it necessary to perform the IPL immediately after applying the PTF?

    Thanks in advance,
    Gloria Fries

You will need to IPL to have the fix effective.

The IPL can be delayed, but the fix (which is for a security/integrity issue) is not effective until the IPL is completed.

What does PTF UI65806 do, or what does it correct? There is no explanation in the APAR.

Since this is a security/integrity issue, the APAR is confidential and no explanation/details are allowed to be documented in the APAR.

Please see the IBM z Systems Security Portal for details.  The tracking number is W1148

UI65806 is a fix to the Early Code.  You can implement it (while Db2 is down) by using -REFRESH DB2,EARLY.   Note that -REFRESH uses only those libraries that were in the linklist at the last IPL.  The -REFRESH produces a min-MEPL - check it has what you expect.

    Hi,

You can apply the PTF and either wait a re-IPL of z/OS or an EARLY code refresh.
To refresh(instead of wait a re-IPL), Enter the following commands after applying this PTF:
      1. MODIFY LLA,UPDATE=xx      -> Only for specified library, Notify your system programmer.
      2. STOP DB2..
      3. REFRESH DB2,EARLY
      4. START DB2..
      >. And.. This PTF is effective now.
