IBM data studio and SPL debug

I am new to the group, I apologize if I ask a question that may be trivial.
I would like to know if it is possible to use IBM Data Studio to create and debug an informix SPL.
If so, could you tell me where to find a tutorial to learn how to do it?
    Thanks.

You can debug Informix SPL routines in:
    • AGS's Server Studio
    • IBM's Optim Development Studio
    • MS Visual Studio with an IBM add-on
I don't know about IBM Data Studio's capabilities for this.

    Thanks for the reply.
Could you please give me some more information on how to debug SPLs with MS Visual Basic?
    Thanks.

Hi, I tried to download "IBM Database Add-Ins for Visual Studio" from the link given on the IBM Database Add-Ins for Visual Studio Overview - IBM Database Add-Ins for Visual Studio
    page
    but I get an error.
Could you please tell me where to download the Add.Ins

Sorry about that. I should have checked the link before I posted it. Aparently that package is no longer available.

    Hi ,
Does anyone use Optim Development Studio to debug SPL ?
I'm looking where to download it or a trial and appears they don't exist anymore on IBM site or the name of the product changed ....
I really want to test any tool to debug SPL on Informix.
Everything appears to be an old solution that does not work anymore.

Years ago, I knew the AGS Server Studio are capable of debugging SPL .
Does anyone use it for this purpose?
Do they still work and are compatible with current Informix versions?

Don't know what happened to Optim Developer Studio.

Yes, AGS's Server Studio can still be used with the latest Informix engines and can still debug stored procedures. You can download a trial at:

    Hi Art,
    Thank you!
    I will test it!

One thing to note about ServerStudio and SPL debugging - unless things have changed in the last couple of years, the SPL debugging requires the 32-bit ODBC driver.  I had migrated to a new PC and only installed the 64-bit driver, then found that I could not debug procedures.  It took a bit of digging to figure out that the driver was the problem.

32bit not an issue if you are running Server Studio on Linux, only on Windows IB.

    Art,

That probably is true, if the OP is planning on installing ServerStudio on Linux.  They never said whether they are planning to do the debugging from Windows or Linux.

But if they are running ServerStudio on Windows [edit - did say Linux], they'll have to have the 32-bit ODBC for SPL debugging, unless AGS has changed that in the last year or so.
