Title: In-Database AI Client Experiences with Db2 for z/OS + Demo

    Date: Tuesday, November 02, 2021

Time: 11:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time

    Duration: 1 hour, 15 minutes

In-Database AI Client Experiences with Db2 for z/OS + Demo

Tom Ramey will highlight some of the key challenges facing Db2 for z/OS clients and how AI is a breakthrough technology, that when applied to Db2 for z/OS performance management and resiliency can have a major impact.

Tom will be joined by Benny Van Straten from Rabobank and Tom Beavin from IBM.  Tom Beavin will share Db2 AI use cases and host a live Db2 AI demo.

Rabobank is a Dutch multinational banking and financial services company; Benny will share first-hand experiences and lessons learnt around Db2 AI for z/OS and the power of in-database AI.

What will you learn by attending this webcast?

    • Hear first-hand client feedback and experiences
    • Learn how Db2 AI improves SQL performance using machine learning based on unique patterns found when executing the queries in a production environment.
    • Learn how Db2 AI automatically detects SQL access path performance regressions and automatically restores the performance back to its optimal level
    • Learn how Db2 AI automatically stabilizes dynamic queries with their optimal access path, reducing prepare overhead

I started my IBM Mainframe career in 1989 as an operator. After 5 years I switched to the programming department to program in PL/1.

Later I became a IMS and DB2 DBA and the last years at my former employer I was a system engineer for IMS and DB2.

In 2011 I started as a Db2 DBA with my current employer, Rabobank Nederland. Since a few years I've switched to system engineer again.

I'm currently involved with the installation and configuration of Db2ZAI 1.4 at the Rabobank site.

Thomas Beavin has been in Db2 for z/OS development for the past 35 years. Starting out in the Db2 Utilities team, Tom worked in the LOAD/REORG area for many years, and then in 1994 switched to developing the access path selection area of the Db2 for z/OS query optimizer, where he has been ever since. Tom was one of the chief architects of the SQL Performance feature of Db2 AI for z/OS, which is focused on improving access path selection using AI. Tom has numerous patents, mostly related to query optimization, and is an IBM Master Inventor (emeritus).
