No worries Keith - many times we are multi-tasking and miss something like this.

Thanks Lionel. I was being silly - I had unpaxed into a directory which already had a lot of junk, saw a few files with names beginning 'zoau', including a tar.gz file and wondered where the rest of the files were. I did not see the bin and docs etc directories because of the junk and imagined that the tar.gz file may be an SMP/E package to be installed or had to be expanded in some way.

I just tried using the instructions (https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/zoau/1.3.x?topic=installing-zoau) and it works for me thus

I first created a 200 cylinder zfs, mounted to a directory under my home that I named "zoau", uploaded from my pc the downloaded pax.Z file and ran the pax command as you can see.
hope this helps

I just downloaded the pax version of ZOAU 1.3 so that I could try it out before (or instead of) installing using SMP/E.
The section "Install via pax" section of the documentaion states that I should run command "pax -ppx -rf zoau-<VERSION>.pax.Z". I did that but all it did was unpack a few filesincluding a tar file. There are no further instructions. WHat should I do and where is it documented ?.
