  • 1.  Windows Server 2019 - Paw Shutdown.ps1 missing?

    Posted Fri April 01, 2022 04:40 PM
When I installed PAW 74 on Windows 2019 everything went smoothly with the install.

However, I have assumed that Windows 2019 still has a risk of Mongo DB not stopping cleanly when the server shuts down (like Windows Server 2016) and the documentation does suggest a "manual" shutdown as a recommended step also.

But the shutdown.ps1 script does not exist in the scripts folder for the PAW74 on Server 2019 download from Fix Central.

To get around this I just copied the script over from the Server 2016 download and placed it in the scripts folder on my install, the script is quite straightforward and still works to cleanly shutdown Mongo DB.

    So my question is:
    - Is the Windows 2019 PAW 74 download missing the shutdown.ps1 script by mistake?
    - Or is this actually no longer required for Windows Server 2019?

    Thanks,
    Declan

    Declan,

I don't know for sure, but I'd bet money shutdown.ps1 is needed.  They edited out "2016" from the following URL and content on March 21, when PAW 2.0.74 Local was released. It was coincidental, but I took a screenshot of the below webpage on March 16 for an internal presentation I did where it clearly said "Windows 2016".  So now, it is just "Windows Server" and it is referenced from both the new 2019 PAW documentation and the old 2016 PAW documentation. Maybe the Windows 2019 documentation was hastily updated from a copy of the Windows 2016 documentation, but until they either answer your question or the documentation is changed, I will advise people to get the shutdown.ps1 from the Windows 2016 PAW installation file and add it to the OS shutdown process when PAW is on Windows 2019.

From before PAW 2.0.74 was released:

Bumping this as the shutdown.ps1 script is still missing from the PAW75 Windows Server 2019 download also.

@STUART KING / @Svetlana Pestsova - are you able to comment on whether it will be added back to the download in the next release?

We have an easy enough workaround by taking the script from an older install but would be good to not have to do that.

    Thanks,

    Declan

    Hi Declan and Walter,

Thank you for pointing this out.
There is no need to run the shutdown.ps1 script with Windows 2019.
The documentation will be updated shortly for that to eliminate confusion.

    Hi Sveltana,

    Thanks for the information.
Installing PAW is getting too easy now!

    Thanks,
