    so ML03 became unsupported when ML04 came out.

    In my experience, IBM will usually give you best effort support with an issue on a backlevel ML and/or fileset if you have an app which requires it. But if it's an issue which is known to be fixed by later fileset or ML release, that's usually where the support ends.
