    1. Directory can be created inside a filesystem but we can't able to create a filesystem in directory.

    2. We can mount the filesystem but we can't mount the directory.

    My interviewer is not convinced by my reply.

    couple of differences from my head:

    filesystem is located on a piece of physical memory, has its fixed size, directory is just a file that contains information on files and sub-directories...

    Data in one filesystem do not 'compete' for disk space with data in other filesystems....

    filesystem can be unmounted and mounted to other server...
