I got excited when I read Deployer can be installed on 6.01 or 6.1 (we are running 6.01). The rub is that you have to use the 6.1 installer to install deployer which requires a 1.4.1 JRE for HP-UX. So unless you’re running webMethods on Windows 2000/XP/2003, you do have to upgrade to 6.1 to use deployer. webMethods 6.1 supports 1.3.1 JRE & 1.4.1 JRE on Windows vs. 1.4.x for Solaris/HP-UX/AIX/Linux/OS X.
