Thanks for all you help here. I have a similar setup to you, across 2 sites. I'll take a go on the clean-up option so if that helps at all.

Disclosure: I know of one guy who did not like Console Takeover as it requires to not only enter in your normal user id and password but it also requires you to enter in a SST user id and password. Apparently his system operator uses the console for restricted state backups and either the operator is dumb as a box of rocks and gets confused by entering in both or even though you can set up a special SST user with just enough authority to start a shared console session he doesn't want them to have any SST access.

How many HMC's do you have?
How many vCenters do you have?
We have two vHMC's. Each on a different vCenter in different physical locations. Each Power system can be controlled by up to 3 HMCs. This allows a painless migration to a new HMC. It also allows you to update a HMC and still be able to control your Power system with a different HMC. We also use it because each of those locations has 1 or more Power systems and the HMC at the other location can help if needed (and often do). About the only issue we have is that IBM i shared console sessions tend to like to stay on one HMC at a time. We work around that by configuring Console take over https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/i/7.5?topic=connection-enabling-console-takeover

Thanks Robert all sorted now. My next issue is on one of my vHMC (an older one) I am running out space to fit in the latest upgrades from FLRT. Do you know if there is a way to extend the filesystems if I extend the virtual disk? Thanks Brad

Firmware is important also. Years ago my HMC and firmware were so far behind that I had to stair step upgrades to get everything current. Now I try to stay current.
I'll give you some important links on your journey.
First and foremost is IBM's Fix Level Recommendation Tool or FLRT. Punch in your levels of HMC, firmware, AIX, VIOS (and IBM i if applicable) and it will give you an upgrade recommendation.

While the FLRT will help you may also wish to see what levels of firmware support what levels of HMC. You can see that at

Currently runnin vHMC on vSphere. I have it on version 9 Build 953.
I am trying to update vHMC to the most current version of 10.
I have tried to read the instructions but they are still very hard to understand.
Some instructions say that I need to have all my AIX and VIOS systems updated before doing the vHMC update.
I need help knowing what I need to do first and in what order to get vHMC up-to-date.
