Vendor package support of Java?

  • 1.  Vendor package support of Java?

    Vendors,

What are your plans for Java support on IBM i?

The reason I am asking is based on:
1 - What levels of IBM i support what levels of Java.  See https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/1117869
    2 - IBM i Next will not support Java 11.  See https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/668193

So, what option are you pursuing?
1 - Stick with Java 8 as IBM hasn't announced removing that yet.
2 - Go to Java 17 and drop support for any release of IBM i which doesn't support that.
3 - Test and see if simply changing the JAVA_HOME environment variable allows the Java du jour to work.
4 - See if IBM comes out with a newer Java for iNext and back levels that a couple of releases.
4a - Drop support for those who do not get the new release of Java
4b - Thread out the product based on IBM i and Java release.
5 - Do nothing as long as people continue to pay maintenance.
    6 - Other
