Does anyone have any words of wisdom for me? Has anyone done this and failed miserably?

Anything that I should watch out for?

    Thanks!

My uneasiness comes from the fact that I'll have to run with one partition at 5.3 and the other at 5.2 for a few weeks until the production side can take the downtime.

I first used the CDs, but then started using the NIM Alt Disk Migration which worked like a charm (see procedure in the newest NIM A-Z redbook). The alt-disk method gives you an easy back-out if you do have problems; simply re-boot off the disk with the 5.2 OS on it. You can also do most of the migration with the current system running to minimize downtime.

    Good-luck.

Otherwise, the upgrade seems to work.. the system reboots, but hangs. We had to back out using a tape backup, which also got botched up on one of the systems.

    hope this helps.

3rd: are the applications ready for AIX53?

    You can also try a nim_move_up from a AIX52 mksysb to a new AIX53 test-migrate LPAR.
