I recommend that you first identify the HMC type (is this a rack mounted HMC).  The model number and machine type are labelled on the unit itself. You should also see the mac addresses labelled for all interfaces.

It's not clear if this HMC was ever in use (why is it plugged into network).  HMC's ship with default passwords that are usually changed immediately during installation.  Defaults: hscroot/abc123 , hscpe/abc123, root/passw0rd.

I suggest you consult the "Adding the Hardware Management Console" document or any HMC installation.  In particular the cabling section.  What else is plugged into the hmc?  If you have an IBM support contract, please call support.

If there is a know CEC that it is controlling you could find out from the LPAR are the ASMI of that CEC; however, how can you be sure what it is doing if you can't login to it.
