Can some explain why an undeliverable email from the Ibm I will use nondelivery@fullyqualifieddomainname.com versus QGATE@fullyqualifieddomainname.com

    Thanks

    Peter

    Dear Peter

My guess is that QGATE is an IBM-supplied user profile that has nothing to do with SMTP (perhaps, for SNADS?) and it should be left at that.  This Technote: Creating a Nondelivery Mail Box at https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/creating-nondelivery-mail-box uses NONDELIVERY as the SMTP user ID and I see that it supplies an answer to your question.

QGATE user profile is an IBM supplied user related to SNADS FS2 sender/receiver.. i think it really depends how is the non-delivery mailbox is configured on your system so if it is using default then QGATE might be used.

nondelivery@fullyqualifieddomainname.com is typically used for handling undeliverable emails, while QGATE@fullyqualifieddomainname.com might be used for specific routing or internal processing. Check your system’s configuration or consult your admin for precise details. I used https://lastminutewriting.com/ for an urgent assignment. The service was quick, and the quality of work was impressive. They helped me out when I was in a tight spot. The writer did an excellent job, and the paper was well-structured and free of errors. The customer service team was also very supportive throughout the process. I will definitely use their service again in the future.

    Peter,

If it is QGATE@fullyqualifieddomainName.com that you would like to use (from my understanding and correct me if I am wrong in that understanding),

See what the user's configuration is on the following commands:

    WRKNAMSMTP

    and

    WRKDIRE

    HTH

    Marius,

The reason for my question is have one customer machine who was getting undeliverable emails from QGATE@FQDN but all of a sudden started getting them from NONDELIVERY@FQDN.  Is there a method of setting up your Iseries for undeliverable mail to define either QGATE or NONDELIVERY?

    Thanks

    Peter

    Peter,

the "all of a sudden" is an intriguing thing that is making my brain cells twitch.
(could be because of SNADS ( as Rohit mentioned before) , that someone tweaked some SNADS settings somewhere on the box? )

as for the undeliverable tracing, looking at logs with the following command might give some reason/clues:

    Look in :
    QHST
    DSPDSTLOG
the journal for SMTP using the DSPJRN command (that one is abit of IBM speak in terms of what you will find)

though trawling the google webs I  found something that you can probably eval :

To configure MSF on IBM i : https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/configuring-msfsmtp-ibm-i
    Similar QGATE errors: https://groups.google.com/g/ibm.software.iseries.connect/c/WS9Kf3jD5Hg
    &  https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/25354161/AS400-email-problem-some-mail-bounces.html

and lastly *if the mail is routed to an external SMTP : https://community.spiceworks.com/t/as-400-and-gmail/222941/8

Last stab : (was there any latest upgrades happening / pfts applied?) : https://code400.com/forum/forum/iseries-programming-languages/any-thing-goes/148519-the-dreaded-qtmmsendmail-problem-with-sending-email-outside-of-local-domain
(note: though old, it something to consider if someone changed a setting without understanding the implications)

Lastly, without knowing the exact error that the system is generating its quite a stab in the dark , IBM i is normally quite detailed in errors it gives, just a trick or two to find exactly where that detail of the error lies is what makes the treasure hunt more exciting!.
