Can anyone help me with my problem. I have an IBM server AIX 5.2. However, I cant access the server due to the accounts/password problem. We forgot what is the password of "root" account. This server was handover to us and the previous owner dont remember anymore the passwords being used in this server. What I have is only the AIX installer, reformatting the server is not an option to change the password of "root" account because the server dont also have a console. We are accessing through Telnet.

Can anyone knowledgeable enough give us, in any ways or means just to access the IBM server? Appreciate your assistance

You'll need physical access to the system and a working directly attached console, serial/tty, lft or via an HMC, you also need alternate boot media such as the install CDs or a bootable mksysb at the same AIX and ML/TL level as the installed operating system.

Thanks for your reply. Could you give me some reference on how I can use via an HMC?

You will need to use the console connection to the LPAR from the HMC.
    Shut down the LPAR.
From the HMC activate the LPAR, select the "open a terminal session", then boot the HMC from CD / mksysb, access the rootvg and start a shell.
Then use passwd to reset the root password.
    Then run: sync;sync;sync;reboot

Seems that cut and paste does not work in this forum.
If you cut the link off it should work.
