    We have planned for AIX upgrade from 5.3 to 6.1. When we tried to boot with DVD -ROM it is not booting with DVD. Instead booting from DVD Media server is getting into Hardware Dignostic mode. There was no DVD-ROM on this, I have taken it from desktop and installed on this (Type 7028-6C4, p630 model) server which is Sony DVD rom.

    Any Idea...Please help.

    Boot into SMS and insure the device is in the list.  If so, boot directly from it.   Make sure the DVD is installation media and not the diagnostic DVD.  

    OR TRY:

    Does the system see the device from the operating system.  If, so, you can manipulate the bootlist (normal and maintenance) to include the device in the first order of boot devices.
