Seperators and delimitters

  • 1.  Seperators and delimitters

This is a general EDI question and sorry if this is not appropriate for this forum. I see ~ as delimitter and * as element sepearator for X12 and ’ as delimitter and + as element seperator for UNEDIFACT data.

Are these delimitters and seperators unique for every standard, say ~ for X12 and ’ for UNEDIFACT and something else for other standards ? if not, is software expected to deal with them ? Hope am not confusing.
    Thanks

    DG

    DG,

As far i know in the general EDI documents world the Delimiters are not unique for X12/EDIFACT or any other Standards it can be either (*,~,?,|,&,’ etc…)
So you can see various delimiters,Field Seperators in the EDI documents and any edi softwares should handle all these types.
