    but it's not "disk based" but "san based" heartbeat I am interested in (new 7.1 feature, no disk device needed).

    Do you mean target mode heart beating? I don't think you can use vSCSI with target mode heart beating as you cannot connect two client vSCSI adapters together, as you can with zoning and vFC.
