  • 1.  Role Customization - defaulting Theme

    Posted Mon June 08, 2020 08:29 AM

Howdy Community - before I opened a bug report on this, I thought I'd check with this team to see if I'm just overlooking a way to resolve this issue.

    Version:  11.1.5 and 11.1.6

I have previously customized a Role to use a specific Theme.  I'd like to undo that -- in other words, I'd like this Role to default to the globally set Theme going forward.

However, unlike all the other properties in the Customization tab, the Themes property does not have a Reset button to undo the customization and set it back to inherit the global.

Is there a way to undo this customization in these releases, or is this an oversight that I should open a bug report for?  Has anyone else seen this?  I'm fairly certain that there was a way to do this reset in prior 11.1.x releases...

    Thanks!

    Rich

If you got to Customization and Themes, you should see default property applied for other roles (Global).

if you change back theme for specific role to this above, it should give you desired Global theme back.

    Hi Buddhi,

That doesn't quite work.  Setting *any* theme on a role overrides the default (which is to inherit the global).

Setting the role to match today's global theme isn't what I'm after... because that just means I'll have to change it again if I change to a different global theme.  The setting is a permanent change to the Role, and I want no customized themes on any role that I have to maintain later.

In 11.1.3 there was a "default" option... that is now gone in 11.1.5/6.  That's really the functionality I'm looking for.  A way to set the Theme customization back to Default.

    Thanks!

If this option was there earlier, then yes it should be a bug.

It seems that was changed wsa the label on that theme.  It used to be labeled 'Default' and is now labeled 'IBM_Classic'.  No other functionality has changed.  So if you just select 'IBM_Classic', that will work as before.

    Hi TIm,

    Thanks for your reply.

IBM_Classic is the name of the out-of-the-box theme from IBM.

Unfortunately, selecting IBM_Classic in a Role customization is the same as hard-coding the use of the out-of-the-box IBM Theme for that Role.  it is not the same as re-setting a Role to use the globally configured Theme (as all Roles start out).  What I'm looking to do is to have a previously customized role inherit the global setting.  Similar to clicking "Clear" when setting the default upload location.

    Thanks,

    Rich

You're right that setting 'IBM_Classic' for the role's theme is not the same as using the global setting.  What I meant is that this is exactly how it worked before when 'Default' was an option.  That selection did not imply that the global setting would be used.  It meant that role would always use the 'Default' theme, which was just a different label for 'IBM_Classic'.  The ability that you are mentioning is not yet implemented.  Its definitely a good idea though!
