  • 1.  retension in mid of tape

    I have a LVD SCSI 4mm Tape of 36G, compression is ON, on my AIX 5.3 p550 box. However during this weekend backup files to the tape, using tar -xvf /dev/rmt0.1 filename, the system indicated error "tar: 0511-193..", Searching on the web, some mentioned it might be the cause of the block size. then I checked the block size which is still the 1024. And I tried one more time to tar the file, it worked wihtout the same error. I wonder can I run the retension in the mid of the tape? will this act affect the current files allocations on the tape?
