I received from another country a backup;
I’m able to restore this backup.
Why other people are not able to restore the same db ?
They see this message:
Block size mismatch detected on index space INORBE4055
Me too, I tried again to restore the same db in other hosts with bad results; only my pc is accepted from this backup.

Is there any particular setting ?

Is your PC and all the other hosts you have tried running the same version of Tamino. Also are they all running the same Operating System?

I tried to restore the database using hosts with this configuration:

Windows 2000 Server - 512 MB RAM - Tamino 2.3.1.4 - server edition - java 1.3.1
Windows 2000 Professional - 160 MB RAM - Tamino 2.3.1.4 - developer edition - java 1.3.1
Windows 2000 Professional - 256 MB RAM - Tamino 2.3.1.4 - server edition - java 1.3.0
Windows 2000 Professional - 380 MB RAM - Tamino 2.3.1.4 - developer edition - java 1.3.0

My pc has this configuration:
Windows 2000 Professional - 512 MB RAM - Tamino 2.2.1.9/2.3.1.1/2.3.1.4 - developer edition - java 1.2.2

The backup comes from a pc with:
Windows 2000 Professional - 380 MB RAM - Tamino 2.3.1.4 - developer edition - java 1.3.0
I’m able to restore something else using the “prepare for cd” property; so, at the moment, I can have, in other hosts, only a “read only” image .

Now I make another question.
When I have to restore a database from a backup I must set the parameter values like the original values of the db.
How can I know the exact value (Database Size, Database Dynamics, User Access) of this setting if the backup is done from other people ? Must I try ?

Hi Christian,

setting the DB parameters when restoring a DB is not necessary. I recommend the following procedure when restoring a DB from tape:

PREREQUISITES:

Make sure that your tape device is installed correctly and
you can access it (on Win e.g. with the backup program from administrative tools).

Furthermore Tamino must be installed and you must have defined your
locations (Tamino Manager → Tamino → Location Management).
DO NOT SET THE DEFAULT BACKUP LOCATION TO YOUR TAPE DEVICE !

RESTORING A TAMINO DATABASE FROM TAPE:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1.) start the Tamino Manager

2.) click on Icon “Tamino” → “Databases”

3.) click on Button “Create Database”

4.) define Database name e.g. “mydb”

5.) click on Button “Next”

6.) select Backup Medium “Tape”

7.) click on Button “Browse” and select your tape device.

8.) click on Button “Next”

9.) select your Locations which you set up before (see prerequisites):
define Log location → “Next”
define Logarchive location → “Next”
define Temporary working locations → “Next”
define Reserve locations → “Next”
define Backup locations → “Finish” DO NOT SELECT YOUR TAPE AS BACKUP LOCATION !

!!! IMMEDIATELY PRESS “Finish” AFTER SELECTING THE BACKUP LOCATION !!!
!!! DO NOT SELECT ANY DATABASE SIZE, JUST PRESS ON “Finish” !!!

NOW THE RESTORE PROCESS WILL START !
all the relevant information (parameters) will be read from tape.
