We faced a peculiar issue yesterday. We assigned a dual port HBA to system but after zoning only one path appeared online for one port for other port we are not able to see any path. When we checked with our SAN team they said that its because the wwn of the port is not visible on switch. We deleted all the devices and fcsX devices and then ran cfgmgr but it did not help. One of the Service Engineer suggested to reset the adapter by running DIAG on it. My question is how DIAG will help in this case and what could be the problem in this case.

Following is the output for both the ports:

    lsattr -El fscsi2
attach switch How this adapter is CONNECTED False
dyntrk no Dynamic Tracking of FC Devices True
fc_err_recov delayed_fail FC Fabric Event Error RECOVERY Policy True
scsi_id 0x45cf80 Adapter SCSI ID False
sw_fc_class 3 FC Class for Fabric True
    lsattr -El fscsi2
attach switch How this adapter is CONNECTED False
dyntrk no Dynamic Tracking of FC Devices True
fc_err_recov delayed_fail FC Fabric Event Error RECOVERY Policy True
scsi_id 0x45cf80 Adapter SCSI ID False
sw_fc_class 3 FC Class for Fabric True

    Thanks & Regards,

    From the output

    lsattr -El fscsi2

dyntrk no Dynamic Tracking of FC Devices True
fc_err_recov delayed_fail FC Fabric Event Error RECOVERY Policy True

It is clear that your fcs2 is attached with the switch.Kindly check for your other adapter also.

    possible problems:

    > check for errpt, whether it is reporting some error.(if no error then there is nothing to do with FC adapter from OS level or hardware level)
    > check for the physical connectivity
    > try change the cables
    > change the port in SAN switch
