Requirement to use BIG FIX

  • 1.  Requirement to use BIG FIX

    Posted Mon January 11, 2021 11:48 AM

    Hello,

We are planning to have ILMT installed. Question:

    • does it need to have a big fix server installed in oder to have ILMT working / deployed ?
    • does it need to have a big fix agent installed on each client machine ? Each VM, LPAR, etc ?

    Regards.

    Hello,

Yes, ILMT runs on top of BigFix platform which collects data from your environment - see:

    https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SS8JFY_9.2.0/com.ibm.lmt.doc/Inventory/planinconf/c_infrastructure.html

You need to install BigFix clients and the scanner module on all computers/VMs with IBM PVU subcapacity software meant to be monitored. See:

    https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SS8JFY_9.2.0/com.ibm.lmt.doc/Inventory/planinconf/c_infrastructure.html

    and also:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDr4rktBMTE

Note the section starting at 01:09. It is beneficial to deploy BigFix clients and configure scanning across all the infrastructure, so you can easily capture any unexpected installations - e.g. done due to maintenance or business continuity reasons.

If due to any reason using BigFix is not an option in your environment, then you need to officially discuss your business case with IBM and request for an approval to manage so-called disconnected scans, e.g. by means of Red Hat Ansible - see:

    https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SS8JFY_9.2.0/com.ibm.lmt.doc/Inventory/planinconf/c_ansible_intro.html

    Best regards,

    LMT-MZ
