    And your link starts:
    "Prerequisites
    If any of the prerequisites listed below cannot be met, see the alternate procedure.
    The volume group containing the failed PV is not rootvg."

    Although there is no indication on the page where to find this "alternate procedure".

    Further down the page in the "Replacing a failed PV when the configuration does not allow the use of the replacepv command" it is covered though.
