    AIX 5L does not support USB devices.

    AIX systems tend to be production servers and USB drives tend to suffer from users yanking out the USB plug at will. This results in filesystem damage and lost data. IBM worked out a long time ago that losing customers data really annoys them and more so than any other bug.
    So AIX filesystem developers are very careful and USB drives are just not safe in production servers.
