Relatively new to AIX but not Unix. Had an extremely bizarre event the other day on one of our systems. It appeared that the routing table actually changed which caused us a major issue. It had the flag M associated with it which suggests it has been modified by network device. What I really do not get with AIX is the S flag which I believe suggests the route is manually added. If I do a route add the S flag does not appear if I do it via Smitty it does. I understand that smitty automatically makes the route permanent and route does not. The point is I've never witnessed a system ammend it's own routing table previously and I am well aware originally the route did not have the S flag till we re-added after it effectively dissapeared.

I believe there was a network event which caused the server to ammend the routing but did the lack of the S flag and in essence the way the route had been added effect this. Has anyone seen similar events!!!
