Mine though (and I had forgotten because Microsoft's JDK was only approved for my system install) only has the vm parm and left the vmargs as follows (still works):

Hi Marius & ASI,
when using Corretto you not only have to set the -vm parameter right, but also remove the -vmargs parameter from the following line.

Hi ASI,
That screenshow shows that its running under SEMERU runtime which is included in RDI itself.
What you can try to do is "point" to a different JVM (like Corretto) in the RDI.INI. (if you do not succeed with Daniel's suggestion.
Steps (*summary) (see earlier post for context).
-> edit the RDI.ini file with the -vm option : it should look like this:
then where the RDI.EXE main directory is located (make a backup first of this file for easier rollback).
-> edit the RDI.ini file with the -vm option : it should look like this:
-vm
plugins/com.ibm.semeru.certified.jdk.x64.windows_9.8.3.202407110822/jdk/bin/javaw
change it to where the new "VM" from Corretto is located
(e.g. c:/ProgramFiles/AmazonCoretto/bin/javaw.exe)
try running then RDI.exe again.

I know this thread is a few months old.
I have a laptop that was recently purchased the came with 24H2. We have installed RDi 9.8.5 on it. We are getting this same issues with java. We did the java Corretto trick and still getting the error. Any other ideas on what we can try?
We are debating to try to downgrade windows from 24H2.
TIA

Great!,
Glad it worked, (still bummed that its the Microsoft Update that caused all this havok).
Though I am learning quite a lot and that makes me happy that I could assist where possible.
Keep the forum posted on stability , thanks MaryAnn.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but for 2 hours yesterday and so far today RDi has remained up and running.
Thank you very much for your suggestions, Marius! I'm already a local admin on my PC so I installed Coretto, restarted, modified the RDI.ini following your instructions. I haven't re-installed the MDCMS plugin yet. I want to make sure it is stable before adding things on.
Again, Marius, your help is greatly appreciated.

Strange case indeed. The logs says mostly something on MDCMS (I assume here its Midrange CMS plugin that is crashing? , could be a existing case issue on 9.8).
I can definitely see that Java Runtimes (other than Oracle) might be the strong cause here.
if you are up for it , you can try the following :
Install Coretto (as per this) : https://docs.aws.amazon.com/corretto/latest/corretto-11-ug/windows-install.html -> then restart the windows.
(though note : that any "other" java runtimes might be affected , so check if there is software that you rely on to test that too as you are changing the JAVA_HOME path to point to another part).
then where the RDI.EXE main directory is located (make a backup first of this file for easier rollback).
-> edit the RDI.ini file with the -vm option : it should look like this:
-vm
plugins/com.ibm.semeru.certified.jdk.x64.windows_9.8.3.202407110822/jdk/bin/javaw
change it to where the new "VM" from Corretto is located
(e.g. c:/ProgramFiles/AmazonCoretto/bin/javaw.exe)
try running then RDI.exe again.
(I messed back on 9.5 with different runtimes by copying the actual VM into RAM first to speed up RDI in the past for a 5% boost)
The other case which they mentioned in the Reddit is that "sentinal one" which is Active Threat software is blocking their RDI.EXE from executing, perhaps your network /security team as another avenue can also whitelist the RDI.exe and directory with subdirectories that RDI is located in also as trusted software in a similar way? (though they might ask very important questions on the trust of this software so be prepared for that).
The last point, I did a similar install of RDI recently in the last 2 weeks on a new windows 11 update 24H2 with no issues, though at the time I had Local Admin privileges granted which they later had to remove. This might be something worth considering in the future when reinstalling. Certain software just behaves better especially if working with Java under Local Admin.

Here is the Reddit link...

We are using version 9.8 of RDi.
I've uploaded the error log and the error window that pops up when it crashes.
Thank you.

Hi MaryAnn,
Can you perhaps share the reddit links here ? (that might also assist in their line of thought).
Also what version of RDI are you referring to here?
Lastly, perhaps if you are able to trace the dumps after the crash (attach it here for reference if you can - they are located in the main path where RDI is installed normally from the executable). That will assist also in troubleshooting.
Marius

Is anyone else having issues with RDi after installing this Windows update? Two of us in our shop have been unable to keep RDi running after this update. It sometimes runs for a while, sometimes it crashes immediately on opening. We have un and re installed RDi, Java, etc.
I've seen a few others mentioning this problem on Reddit, but I don't see it mentioned anywhere in this forum. Someone there mentioned using Amazon Corretto with good results.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
