Today I stumbled over something on a customer's server running V7R2 that got me wondering.  I saw /QOpenSys/QOpenSys/QOpenSys and so forth going on forever.  I understand that they are SYMLNKs pointing back to the first level /QOpenSys.  I also checked a test partition of mine running V7R4, and found the same SYMLNKs.

Can someone please explain why it is like this?  It is very confusing.  And must it be like this?

I found an old article in ITjungle showing a way to clean this up, but I don't know if it is wise to do it:

IBM has a technote about this here: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/640381

See here for my explanation of why the symlink exists: https://archive.midrange.com/opensource/201702/msg00019.html

Is this link causing you any problems?

Thank you for your answer and links to information.
No, it is not causing any problems it is just confusing.  And I struggled to find any good explanations for it.  Conclusion is that I will just leave it as it is.
