I have a p5 570 with AIX 5.3 installed on it. I want to synchronize it with our NTP server.

My /etc/environment has got -- "TZ=IST+5:30" as this server is in India and there isn't standard timezone for India, so we had to create one using "smit system" command. We didn't try with GMT....

Now when we try and query the NTP server using the command "ntpdate -d <NTP Server>", it shows me a shift of 10 hrs 9 min or in other words it gives me an offset value of -39587.121879. So, it takes the clock of my server "10hr 9min" back.

Please suggest me what needs to be done and what parameters should I look for other than these....and how can I sync it.

If any other information is needed then please ask for it......
    TIA

Being in the UK means GMT is just fine for me - I guess that is the advantage of an Englishman inventing it in the first place.

You have asked 4 NTP related questions now - Can I suggest you call on your UNIX support and get them to sort it out. As you have a nice new p570, I assume you will have full AIX support and that sort of thing is what they are good at :-)

can you report back what happens?
