I'm facing a problem with the configuration of a VIOS. I'm trying to create a VIOS that servers many different Client LPARS's Virtual Ethernet NICs in different VLANs.

1- I created the VIOS profile and assigned one Virtual Ethernet adapter with 802.1b enabled. I have assigned one default PVID and allowed some other VLANs ids to connect to this device.
2- I have assigned two NICs (dual Port) to the VIOS. Created one etherchannel device with mkvdev -lnagg command.
3- Once i have the link aggregation device, i have issued the mkvdev -sea command using this newly Etherchannel device and using the Virtual Adapter created in step 1.
4- I have created two LPARs with Virtual Ethernet devices, each of them with a VLAN tagid in the Profile properties. I have used the smitty vlan fastpath in AIX in order to create a VLAN capable device and config a single IP address on this device.

I was able to ping from one of the client LPAR but after changing the ip address and VLAN id it was not able anymore. Reading from Developers at IBM.com i realized that i have to use the mkvdev -vlan command on the sea in order to add different VLANs tag to the SEA with mkvdev -vlan commad. But no good results.

Could you please help me in this configuration? How can i config several VLANs to work with SEA devices?

    Thanks in Advanced

    Hi

Finnally i was able to config but i'm not very sure that this is the right solution to the problem.

Following some instructions found in Internet i created the SEA device and then using the mkvdev command created some vlan devices linked to this SEA one. In the client partitions i created one VLAN device on top of the Virtual LAN Adapter and config TCPIP as usual. No Success.

After some experimentation i deleted the VIOS VLAN devices and well as in the client. Configured TCPIP in the client and could ping from the VIOS CLient to the VIOS Server and well as the Router and even some DNS lookups.

Still don't understand what's going on here.

    Any help please.
