So i modified bosinst.data and image.data files (according to future platform) before making mksysb on old platform.
After booting on CD and restoring system using mksysb tape, the installation is launched but ever fails when mounting / with following messages :

Log[2]: rm: not found 27 Over mounting /.
    No such file or directory
    Log[5]: /var/adm/ras/bi.log: cannot create

    INIT: EXECUTING /sbin/rc.boot 2

    INIT: SINGLE USER MODE

    INIT: FATAL ERROR IN /usr/bin/sh
    XIX s-shell

    Can anyone help me ?

    Many thanks in advance,

    Fred

Once you replace the right libraries with patching, your CD is worthless for recovery purposes. I have recovered Solaris 9 operating environments by booting Solaris 7 CD's. Go up one maintenance level in AIX and you are done.

If the system you are cloning is still stable, make a mksysb to tape, and boot the clone with that tape. Make sure you disconnect the ethernet cable before it boots, for obvious reasons.

    Anyway, hope this helps.

    Thnaks for your answers.
I've tried to boot the tape but the OS didn't boot, probably due to the huge differences between the new hard and the old one.

Now, i've made an installation with preservation of AIX 5.2 ML4 and it's works, but a lot of filesets where deleted.

Another question : how to get a set of CDs of AIX 5.2 ML7 with AIX 5.2 ML4 and upgrade CDs of AIX 5.2 ML7 ?

The direction was to be able to order them online, but I do not have the link for this yet. We have not ordered a refresh in awhile. If I find out anything further I'll post it here.

But does this mean that you have to make a new bootable CD every time you increase the Maintenance Level on your machine ? Just making periodic mksysb's doesn't seem to be enough ...
